Say Hello [Hello] to Earth Day at SOCO’s Virtual Kids Club!

In honor of Earth Day coming up on 4/22, join SOCO for another virtual Kids Club event that explores all aspects of seeing and appreciating nature. Named a “Best Children’s Book of the Year” by The Washington Post, our featured book is Hello, Hello! written by New York Times bestselling and Caldecott Honor-winning author, Brendan Wenzel.

Starting with color and pattern and moving on to size, shape, sound, and more, this book is perfect for introducing young readers to important visual concepts. Hello, Hello! Features over 30 different animal species (many of them endangered) and dives into the unique traits that make every creature special – a celebration of diversity that’s also an ode to connection and curiosity.

Following storytime, kids will have a chance to get artsy when they create their very own Handprint Parrot during a guided arts & crafts portion of the event. Click the link below to get started!

UPCOMING EVENTS

PIRCH’S Ultimate Grill Event

Learn how to make the most of your summer cookouts with PIRCH’s Ultimate Grill Event! This Saturday, July 27 from 11:00 a.m. to3:00 p.m., BBQ lovers and grill masters alike are invited to join PIRCH and DCS Grills for a delicious + informative lunch event featuring Pasturebird Chicken. Attendees will taste chicken and other delightful dishes prepared by the amazing DCS grill while also hearing from expert chefs who will share the fascinating ins and outs of the DCS grill that was used to prepare lunch. Savory Spice Shop and Sir Owlverick’s Coffee will also be in attendance to offer tasty samples and speak on all things spices and coffee.

Paint & Sip at Chuck Jones
Join the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity on the evening of Friday, July 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a night of Chuck Jones Pop Art! Expert teaching artists will guide you through the step-by-step process of painting one of Chuck’s beloved characters and will help you create a colorful, one of a kind work of art using nontraditional tools. Storytime at Cilek Kids Room
Stop by Cilek Kids Room all summer long for Storytime! This hour-long creative and interactive program will feature live music, dance, and storytelling at each event along with a parent and child art activity to end the day. Once Storytime is complete, families are invited to the SOCO Farmers’ Market to take part in a tasting tour with Market Bucks-tokens that can be spent on anything inside the market. The first Storytime event will take place this weekend on Saturday, July 27 at11:00 a.m. and will feature the “Goodnight Moon” storybook. Storytime will continue once monthly until October on 8/24, 9/28, and10/26 with different stories and activities featured each month. Chuck Jones Halloween Fall Fundraiser – This Sunday!
Play It Forward, a “Spook”tacular FUNdraiser for Creativity Benefiting the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity is coming up THIS Sunday, October 22 from 1-4pm at Chuck Jones Center for Creativity at #SOCOandTheOCMix. There will be mask-making, trick or treat bag and faux pumpkin decorating, “Day-of-the-Dead” skeleton head decorating, wire art, lyric-writing, toy-making, animation light-table drawing, and more! Halloween Photo Booth at SOCO
On October 28. Alison Bernier Kids Photography will be hosting a free photo booth in honor of Halloween on October 28th from 9.30am – 12.30pm at #SOCOandtheOCMix Children in costume are invited to come have pictures taken with our spooky backdrop. You can purchase your photos afterward from an online gallery. Individual digital Images will be $30, 2 for $50 or 3 for $65. No bookings are required. We look forward to seeing you all!

SOCO After Dark – Live Music EVERY Monday
You’re invited to Live Music Mondays at SOCO and The OC Mix! Join us now every Monday to enjoy happy hour at We Olive Wine Bar and Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop – and live music in the SOCO Courtyard from the Riff Raff Vintage Swing Band. No RSVP necessary. Click here for more details.
